What is Matrix?

Matrix is a decentralized IM protocol that supports private chats, group chats, channels, video chats, and more.
It does not lock you into a single central server. You can use any public server, or even host your own server, to chat with users on different servers. Even if one server goes down, the entire network can continue to operate.
You can also choose your preferred client, such as Element, Cinny.
Drawbacks
- Matrix uses a decentralized federated architecture, and room state needs to be synchronized between different servers, which may result in slower loading times.
- You need to manage your own keys. If you do not properly save your recovery key or set up key backup, you may be unable to decrypt past chat history.
How to Join?
You can start from matrix.org, the largest service provider in the Matrix network. You can also view other available servers here.
